Shared service centres, traditionally supporting middle and back office operations encompassing Finance, HR, Procurement and IT have widely been utilised by companies of different sizes and sectors. With improvements in technology and strategic decision management, the traditional shared service centre model is evolving from a standalone functional transaction model to a strategic value model.

These innovations and changes are driving shared service centres away from the single purpose of cost optimization to supporting corporate strategy, digital transformation and management objectives.


The purpose of this discussion is to understand the (R)evolution of shared services model into digital business services, key business imperatives, opportunities & challenges as well as lesson learnt on how should organisation plan their shared services transformation journey!



About the speakers:

  •  Ian Brown, Head of Region SOLVAY Asia pacific shared services

UK born, and CIMA qualified for over 30 years. Worked in a number of manufacturing companies within the finance family for the last 33 years. Worked outside of UK for the last 15 years, 6 in France and the last 9 years in APAC looking after and creating the shared services in Asia for Solvay which has evolved from "country base to zone base since 2014 under a GBS philosophy and has over 350 people in its Shared service for APAC.

Solvay Business Services is a GBS that delivers its services based on four End-to-End processes: Hire to Retire, Order to Cash, Procure to Pay & Record to Report, side by side with an Information Services support team. SBS is organised into local teams coordinated by 4 regional centres – in Lyon, Cranbury, São Paulo and Singapore – delivering its services from 4 Service Centre Offices in Lisbon, Riga, Curitiba and Bangkok.

  • Juvanus Tjandra, Partner, Management Consulting, KPMG Singapore
 Juvanus is a partner with the management consulting practice for KPMG in Singapore. He leads the practice’s interests in Digital Finance transformation and Shared Services & Outsourcing Advisory

Juvanus has over 19 years of experience advising multinational companies in the United States, Australia and Asia Pacific region. He has extensive experience in managing large finance transformation, finance Target Operating Model, business partnering, and the establishment of finance shared services and outsourcing.

Juvanus has hands-on knowledge and experience with leading edge finance transformation initiatives.

Juvanus graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Finance with Distinction average under a scholarship program with AMP Henderson.


  • Ludovic Sichère, APAC Business Development, Marketing & Strategy Director, Imerys Carbonates
As Business Development & Strategy Director for Imerys Carbonates in Asia Pacific, Ludovic supports Imerys in growing via greenfield, innovation, partnerships and acquisitions in APAC. Imerys is a global leader in industrial minerals. In his previous role as Director at KPMG, he designed and implemented shared service centers for MNCs in countries like Malaysia and Singapore.


  • Varthini Larue, CFO South East Asia Pacific, Air Liquide

Financial professional with close to 30 years of experience out of which 20 y in Air Liquide Group with various experiences from accounting, ERP implementation, head of Group Consolidation. Working overseas for the last 10 y as country CFO in Argentina and Taiwan and currently Regional CFO in SEA. Varthini has driven the transformation of Finance of the region by setting up a financial shared service center in KL in 2017.
