In the last few years, international political events have giving rise to a proliferation of measures adopted by the United Nations and sovereign states, imposing trade restrictions, embargoes and other sanctions against delinquent governments, related entities and individuals. The result is a multi-layered regime of sanctions with diverse political motivations and sometimes different scopes of application. By their very nature, the sanctions have a direct impact on international trade.

Taking a comparative law approach, Julie Raneda, Counsel at Schellenberg Wittmer, will discuss the impact that sanctions can have on day-to-day business and contracts, and offer some practical advice to insure compliance with the trade sanctions regimes.
