Celebration at the FCCS Gala Dinner
After last year’s memorable success for the unprecedented
Haute Couture Gala Dinner with Franck Sorbier as part of the
Voilah! French Festival 2007, Haute Couture came back to
Singapore this year with French Fashion Designer Dominique
Sirop.
French
style and taste were again in the middle of the celebrations
this year at the annual FCCS Haute Couture Gala Dinner.
Gathered at the Shangri-La Hotel’s Island Ballroom on the 6th
of March 2008, over 400 eminent guests enjoyed the
evening under the presidency of our guest of honor Dr
Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development,
Youth and Sports & Second Minister for Information,
Communications and the Arts, and in the presence of HE
Pierre Buhler, Ambassador of France to Singapore.
The evening started at 7 pm with a
Champagne cocktail sponsored by Pernod-Ricard. Upon the
arrival of our guest of Honor, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Ms
Vivien Tan, our MC for the night, opened the gala dinner as our guests
proceeded to their tables in the futuristic décor of the
ballroom. After Mr Jean Luc Anglada held the welcome speech,
Dr Balakrishnan and HE Pierre Buhler gave their address to
reconfirm the strong and special ties between France and
Singapore and highlight France’s commitment to Singapore’s
vision of becoming a vibrant place for arts and culture. This
elegant and artistic haute couture gala dinner was a concrete
living example of how France can bring a hint of its culture
to Singapore. A feast of delicious food was then served,
accompanied by delicate French
wines sponsored by Wine Connection, making the dinner
an excellent multi-sensory experience.
Organised for the first time this year, an auction spiced up
the atmosphere halfway through the evening. Four prestigious
prizes were auctioned including a Hermès watch,
Alhambra Bijoux by Van Cleef & Arpels, a Haute Couture
dress by Dominique Sirop and two return tickets to
Paris in Business Class by Air France to visit
Dominique Sirop’s Atelier in Paris. The charity auction was
very well received among the guests, providing for some
exciting biding. The FCCS will share the profits of the
auction with the Singapore Repertory Theater.
This year’s fashion show was truly the culminating point of
the evening. Dominique Sirop is indeed one of the top 10
French Haute Couture Designers. Bringing 48 creations from
his latest collection to Singapore for the first time ever,
Dominique presented his particular idea of fashion with an
uplifting, high-paced show of colours and textures.
After the dinner, an open-bar with free flow of Champagne was
open next to the dance floor until late to allow further
entertainment.
To round up the event, a private sale of Dominique Sirop’s
creations took place for our guests on the following day at
the Shangri-La Hotel.
