Member Spotlight | Navigating Success in Singapore's Supply Chain

Julien Metayer, Global Client Manager at Maersk Singapore, discusses his SEA logistics journey, FCCS membership benefits, and industry success advices

Can you tell us about your journey at Maersk and what brought you to Singapore?

I have been working in Asia for over 20 years, and specifically in Singapore within the logistics and supply chain sector.  My experience covers the movement of goods via air and sea transport, contract logistics, and intermodal freight. As a permanent resident, I settled here with my family in the dynamic region surrounding the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

The region is one of the world’s busiest trade routes, with Singapore handling a record 41 million shipping containers in 2024. I have witnessed substantial growth in Southeast Asia, and being part of Maersk in such a dynamic environment has been incredibly rewarding.

Singapore is a crucial gateway for shipping and supply chains, as well as for my personal journey. This ‘red dot’ city serves as a key connection point between Asia and the world—just as we do at Maersk by integrating our services globally. Maersk’s vision is to become the Global Integrator, offering truly integrated logistics solutions that connect, protect, and simplify our customers' supply chains.

How has being an FCCS member supported you in your professional journey?

I joined the French Chamber of Commerce Singapore (FCCS) in 2008, and since then, I have found it to be an invaluable platform for connecting with the community. The exchange of information and ideas has been beneficial both personally and professionally. Whether it is business insights or collaborative opportunities, I have always learned something from the interactions within the FCCS members

Are there any key moments or connections that stand out?

For me, every meeting is an opportunity to learn. The more you participate, the more you gain in terms of knowledge and connections, which helps you stay open to the constantly evolving business landscape. A standout moment for me in 2023 was being named Sales Master at Maersk. This recognition reflected the company’s values and my success in bringing value to both my clients and colleagues. The FCCS played a key role in this achievement, as the connections I made through its diverse events helped me grow and succeed.

What advice would you give to professionals looking to expand their business opportunities in Singapore’s supply chain and logistics?

Be open and collaborative. Helping others and sharing knowledge will always create new opportunities. The more you engage with the community, the more you will grow in this dynamic sector.
