Violet Chen is currently Deputy Director with the Policy & Planning Department at the Energy Market Authority (EMA). Her key responsibilities include developing the policy framework for solar energy, energy storage, demand response, electricity futures market, as well as climate change mitigation efforts for the electricity generation sector.
The EMA is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The EMA regulates Singapore’s electricity and gas sectors, so as to achieve a reliable and secure energy supply, competitive energy market and a dynamic energy sector.
Prior to her current appointment, Violet was with the External Relations department in EMA responsible for international and regional energy cooperation. She was also with the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2012 and contributed to that year’s World Energy Outlook (WEO).
