About the Speakers

  • Manu Bhaskaran, Adjunct Senior Research Fellow, the Institute of Policy Studies

Manu Bhaskaran is Director of Centennial Group International and the Founding Director and Chief Executive Officer of Centennial Asia Advisors.

Mr Bhaskaran is an expert on economic and political risk assessment and forecasting. Before joining the Centennial Group, he was Chief Economist for Asia of a leading international investment bank and managed its Singapore-based economic advisory group.

Mr Bhaskaran is a well-regarded commentator on Asian financial and economic affairs, and has regular columns in business weeklies such as the Edge in Singapore/Malaysia. He serves as Senior Adjunct Fellow, Institute of Policy Studies, member of the Regional Advisory Board of the IMF for Asia, Council Member of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs and Vice-President of the Economics Society of Singapore.

Mr Bhaskaran has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Cambridge University.  He has also qualified as a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is based in Singapore.

An engineer by training in 1986 (ENSTA Brest engineering school -master 2 specialized in naval systems), enjoyed a first career at the French ministry of defense oriented to specialized productions and then to international relations.

After the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 1997 (ENA), he joined the French ministry of economy and finance / Treasury in 1997 and worked first with the Maghreb countries, then was posted in Lebanon (1999) and in Sweden (2002).

Upon his return to France in 2006, he was promoted Deputy Director General-operations of Ubifrance, the French agency for exports development. Then he was appointed from 2008 chief of the French Economic Department for the Near East posted in Beirut (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Palestinian Territories and Israel), and from 2011 to Sept 2015 Minister Counsellor / Economic Affairs at the French Embassy in Canada.

After returning to Paris in September 2015, he participated in the development of the strategy for attracting financial investments to France, as a project director.

He was promoted, from august 2016 to august 2018, Deputy CEO at Business France, the French government agency for the promotion of French companies’ exports, the promotion of foreign investments to France, and the promotion of the image of France as a business country.
